The story
1 min read'Uffizi' just means offices: Vasari built it in 1560 as Duke Cosimo's civil-service HQ. Go at opening and work the second floor chronologically: Giotto's Ognissanti Madonna (where painting learns weight and depth), Botticelli's Primavera and Birth of Venus, Leonardo's Annunciation, Michelangelo's Doni Tondo, Raphael's Goldfinch Madonna, Titian's Venus of Urbino, and Caravaggio's Medusa, a self-portrait mid-scream.
The courtyard niches hold 28 Tuscan geniuses, and the corridor windows frame Ponte Vecchio: an official postcard since the Medici.
End on the terrace bar above the loggia: the best coffee view in Florence.
